Potholes & unadopted road

David Stewart Gillies Posted on 21/08/2013 by dsg25721/11/2013

Due to Constantly phoning both Glasgow city Council and Cube Housing about the state of the road leading to the property where I live since moving in over 5 year’s ago I decided the best way would be to catalogue all my efforts and put them on this site for all to see

I have given the link to the following

local Councillors
Cube Housing Representative
Glasgow City Council Representative

I have also posted copies of all correspondence received about this problem

Over 2 years ago when I first started to complain I was passed from pillar to post and promised by certain parties that they would look into it and get the problem fixed, due to this I am doing as much as I can myself to get it solved and then get the road completely resurfaced

Response from email sent to councillors

Apologies for the delay in responding. Been a busier than normal week.

I know your access road well having canvassed their on several occasions.

I believe there are two issues for which you are requesting assistance, both of which I can help with: who actually owns the road and how do you go about adopting them.

Please confirm if both these actions on my part would be useful and if there is any other way I can assist at this stage.

Kind regards

Feargal

My name is David Gillies and i am contacting all my local councillors about the access road to 154/174 Broomhill Dr where i stay the state of the road is unbelievable and my enquiries to get it fixed get me no where having contacted both Cube and Glasgow Roads department and getting the plans from both which contradict each other as to the owner of the road

i have all the information and the plans from both parties along with a full list of all adopted Roads off Broomhill Dr and picture of the holes taken a month or two back the holes are a lot worse now and i will be taking more pictures soon to put on the site to confirm this on my personal web site a link to the potholes i hope you can take the time to review my information and try to help fix this situation

the road leading to 154/ 174 Broomhill Dr has 204 houses and a great number of cars these roads have only had emergency repairs( tar dumped in hole) which does not last and the damage to the cars is extensive, I*i personally have had a great number of tyres replaced usually the same front right and major suspension repairs along with tracking done over 6 time in my 4 year old car

I can be contacted anytime on my Mobile xxxxxxxx and i am willing to do what i can to Get these Roads Adopted and Properly Repaired

Contacted Linsay Ogilvie @ Cube Housing today about the email from Glasgow District Council about the Adopted Roads in Broomhill.
According to their map None of the Cube Properties have adopted access roads.

Linsay is going to contact Stuart McKay from the GDC and the Cube Lawyers to try and find a solution to the problem.

I am also going to contact MR McKay and also the local councillor  Kenny McLean and inform him of the latest developments

as anyone can see from the pictures and the previous ones taken by Google maps in 2009 they are getting worse and the council only patch them which does not last
I contacted Cube housing who emailed me a map of adopted roads in Broomhill

broomhill map

As you will see the Road leading into 154 is in red (which is adopted) in Cubes opinion but Glasgow City council have different plans. The statutory list of public roads lists all adopted roads shows the following information

Adopted road name Ref Description Adopted date
BROOMHILL AVENUE 1448 FROM DUMBARTON ROAD TO BROOMHILL DRIVE 01-Jan-1900
BROOMHILL CRESCENT 5053 FROM BROOMHILL DRIVE TO BROOMHILL DRIVE.
NOTE
———
‘PROPOSE STOP UP’.
01-Mar-1975
BROOMHILL DRIVE 1449 FROM DUMBARTON ROAD TO CROW ROAD 01-Jan-1900
BROOMHILL GARDENS 5054 A CUL-DE-SAC FROM BROOMHILL DRIVE 01-Mar-1975
BROOMHILL LANE 5055 FROM THE WEST KERB OF THORNWOOD DRIVE TO THE NORTH KERB OF
BROOMHILL PLACE. (CONTINUES AS A PRIVATE LANE FROM THE NORTH
KERB OF BROOMHILL PLACE TO BROOMHILL ROAD).
01-Mar-1975
BROOMHILL LANE FP6041 (1) PATH BLOCK No 1 – FROM THE HEEL OF THE EAST FOOTPATH OF ROAD
No 6 EASTWARDS FOR A DISTANCE OF 82 FEET.
(2) PATH TO BLOCK No 3 – FROM THE HEEL OF THE NORTH FOOTPATH OF
BROOMHILL LANE NORTH WESTWARDS FOR A DISTANCE OF 165 FEET WITH A
FURTHER.
06-Mar-1972
BROOMHILL PLACE 3690 FROM BROOMHILL DRIVE TO BROOMHILL LANE.
LENGTH: 227 FEET
WIDTH: 22 FEET
AREA: 4997 FEET.
01-Mar-1975
BROOMHILL ROAD 5057 A CUL-DE-SAC OFF THE EAST KERB OF BROOMHILL DRIVE.
NOTE
———
‘PROPOSE STOP UP’.
01-Mar-1975

From what I can make out from the above list  the Three exits on the east side of Broomhill Dr are Broomhill Place , Broomhill Gardens and Broomhill Road  all of which are adopted in 01-March 1975 But with 1 slight problem we have no Broomhill Road exiting Broomhill Dr  This is the only one  that could be the entrance to 154/174  as the other 2 exits are named and exist. the” Proposed Stop up”  means it is  down for removal of adopted roads.

As my address is actually Broomhill Dr I was thinking that it is by default adopted due to the fact that it is within the confines of the name From Dumbarton Rd to Crow Road

Road Repairs

David Stewart Gillies Posted on 03/09/2013 by dsg25712/11/2013

mapDue to the fact that Glasgow city Council is Resurfacing the Main Broomhill Drive. I phoned the council to see if they are going to resurface the access road into the flats where I live. Got through to someone in the roads department who told me the road leading to my block of flats is not adopted (which I have argued with them before) I then phoned Cube Housing (regeneration team) who seem to think it is adopted. checking the adopted road list on Glasgow city council web site I found this:
Broomhill Road ref 5057 a Cul-de-sac off east kerb of Broomhill Dr adopted 1st march 1975
NOTE:” Propose stop up” which I have been told means it is to be removed from list of adopted roads I know this is not my address as far as I know their is no Broomhill Rd off Broomhill Dr it is the only cut off on Broomhill Dr that does not have a name the only other two exits on east side of the Dr is Broomhill place and Broomhill gardens.

From Google maps I have pictures of some of the potholes dated from 2009

pothole2  pothole3pothole4 pothole5 pothole6  These potholes are a lot worse now and there is a lot more damage to the road over the years these hole have had a temporary fix numerous times  (some tar pored in the holes )  It is very frustrating as no one seems to Take responsibility for the Road mean time My car and my bank balance is one of many who suffer

pothole7I have had to change tyres usually front right numerous times about 4 times more than any other tyre, I rotate my tyres to keep an even tread on them , I have had the tracking done on the car at least twice a year since I got the car NEW in 2009 had to have a front bush and bottom ball joint replaced  due to damage

WHAT Else can I say :

CUBE Find out who owns the road and get it fixed

Pothole

David Stewart Gillies Posted on 25/08/2013 by dsg25721/11/2013

I am contantly contacting Glasgow City council about potholes in the partick/broomhill area. I even downloaded the Glasgow app for my phone. The worst place is the entrance of the road to where i stay first there are potholes where you stop on the main road to turn, next there is a large pothole on the left at the bottom of the roadbetween a drain and a manhole cover(you hit this everytime you enter or leave the road) , then in the centre of the road right up till the right turn, then there is numerous holes of various sizes as you turn right then left to the car park.
In the app it asks what you do to avoid these holes WELL NOTHING as there is no way to avoid a hole without hitting another if you miss thehole with one wheel you hit it with another. An the right of theroad where you enter there is parked cars all the way up  so the opisite side gets twice the traffic . I have constanly asked for the whols road to be resurfaced but to no avail. Wil be posting pictures and a map once i take them
